The Secret to Achieving Your Goals

Do you ever feel like you’re on a hamster wheel? You know, where you’re constantly running, but you don’t seem to be making any progress or getting to where you want to be?

We all want to get off of that hamster wheel, especially where our health and fitness goals are concerned. You feel like you’re putting in the work and effort, but you just aren’t moving forward. You aren’t losing weight; you’re just ‘getting by.’ Diet after diet, week after week, you look for the ‘new’ and ‘faster’ way to lose fat and fit into that favourite old pair of jeans.

The reality is, if resistance shows up and you don’t push past it, you’ll keep moving from one thing to the next and never get ahead. When you try to do everything – the detox cleanses, exercise every day, eliminating food groups from your diet, trying to cook completely from scratch, train to run a marathon with your friends – those are all ideas that lack some crucial aspects: implementation and consistency.

Doing things once or twice a week won’t generate results, and doing too much at once is overwhelming and unable to maintain. Want to know what the secret to achieving your goals is? Ready…?

That’s right. Even I had to learn this along my own health and fitness journey. Everything changed when I started to focus, and really started to learn what my body needed, instead of waiting for that ‘next best thing’ to come along. My main focus was on four points:

  1. Get results
  2. Figure out a way to still love my food
  3. Consistently participate in my program
  4. Always improve (do a little better) each time

Many of us struggle – including me! When life gets difficult, we spread our efforts to other things and this can cause us to dabble over and over, trying all of those different things that we think will work and fit into our lives, or we pick out certain parts of something to try without being consistent in any one thing. So many different aspects of our lives play roles in our health and fitness, and it’s important to remember that you have a FINITE amount of energy that should be used wisely.

You can’t blame a program or system for not working unless you give it at least 80% consistent effort. If you concentrate on fully following one program, focusing on implementing each aspect repeatedly, you are guaranteed to start to notice change, and be able to push forward to create more change. But you can’t achieve those goals and move from one to the next without understanding how your body works, feels and what it needs to function properly.

There’s a lot more to reaching those health and fitness goals than just exercise and nutrition. When you add understanding and consistent focus, you will succeed.

The first step must begin with you!
